“Scythe and Sparrow” is the third installment of “The Ruinous Love Trilogy” by Brynne Weaver. Weaver seamlessly intertwines this dark slow burn romance with her first two in an addicting non-stop read. Following Rose Evan’s (a.k.a The Sparrow), who we met in book 1, and the youngest Kane brother, Fionn.
Fionn is a doctor just trying to mind his own business out in Nebraska - away from his brothers and their chaotic criminal lives -when circus performer Rose Evan’s breaks into his clinic bloody and on the brink of death. Her soft desperate plea for help has Fionn Kane instantly invested in her wellbeing. Saving her life wasn’t enough for him and as he suspected there was no way she was in a motorcycle accident. Jumping right into the chaos this book follows a bunch of murder mishaps, a drug addicted raccoon named Barbara, and two friends indulging in the benefits they can offer one another. But, as time goes on and Rose is almost done healing, they both wonder if maybe there’s more to this life than the rules they’ve created.
My thoughts:
This is arguably my FAVORITE book in this trilogy. Brynne Weavers writing only strengthened and genuinely this trilogy should be the poster child for why you should keep a trilogy just that. One thing I love about Brynne Weaver is that she puts real life traumas into her books. I absolutely loved that Rose was a beacon for women in domestic violence situations and even though she isn’t very good at murdering these men, she still does it for the women who can’t. The storytelling was phenomenal and I was so entranced by the visualization I was able to have while listening to this book. As for the smut I was absolutely gagged and foaming. Like someone get me some cotton candy and lube STAT! I loved Fionn’s character and I loved even more that he crochets! Rose was also great and so likable, which is sometimes a rarity in the romance world. Brynne Weaver, you just continue writing absolute masterpieces of romantic literature, and I will continue to eat that shit up. Deal?
