Guys... I feel so normal about this.
If you're not sure what The Dare is about, it's essentially a really short story about a guy named Manson getting "revenge" on his high school bully, Jessica. After an intense game of beer pong, he dares her to be his slave. But - massive shocker - she's super into it and the story gets very horny.
This erotic romance novella was about 100 pages on my Kindle, so I managed to read it all in a single night. It was the first book I finished in 2025 and it truly did not disappoint. When I first started reading, I was a little nervous because the dialogue was a little cringe. There was also some minor infodumping within the text, but the author's writing started to get much better around the 20% mark. I was really engaged and entertained for most of the story - and even when I thought the book was starting to get a little boring, three clowns showed up and changed my mind.
That's right, folks. There were hot men dressed as clowns in this book (they were at a Halloween party, so it wasn't that strange). As a massive hater of clowns, I must say - at first it was fun, then scary, then fun again, then spooky but in a fun way - but suffice to say I ate that shit up!! More sexy clowns! Give it to me now!!
Though Manson's physical description made him sound kind of ugly, the way his character behaved had me questioning my morals. I mean - my guy spit backwash into Jessica's mouth... and instead of giving Jessica her underwear back, he chugged his beer pong cup... my dude owned a PADDLE!! He shared her with his clown friends!!! He made her get off on the handle of a KNIFE!!!! Meanwhile I was giggling and kicking my feet like this was some cutesy little romcom. Deranged? Yes.
This book made me feel like a feral animal. The spice was immaculate and the story kept me thoroughly entertained. I definitely plan on reading Losers - which is the sequel to this novella - because I want more of Manson and his clown buddies, please and thanks!
